Thomas Jefferson

This lovely bit of writing by one of our founding fathers popped up on Debunking Christianity and I found it very interesting.

Too bad I couldn’t read this in church the last time we had an AmeriJesus explosion service…  (The Southern Baptist church is quite fond of doing huge patriotic events in which it is stressed that we are a Christian nation founded on Christian—and by Christian it is meant, obviously, Southern Baptist—ideals, etc., etc.)

This is the same guy who went through the bible, striped out all the supernatural bs and renamed it “The moral teachings of a man called Jesus.” Nonetheless, Christians will try their damnedest to claim him and all the other founding fathers through a nasty little tactic called “quote mining.” (You find some sentence they wrote, that if on it’s own would support the idea you’re tying to push, and take it out of context to attempt to prove your point)
